I have learned that parenting a teenager is not simply about preventing bad choices. It is also about preparing a young person to make good choices when I am no longer standing nearby.

That requires more than rules.

My teenager needs correction, but also conversation. They need boundaries, but also growing responsibility. They need to know what our family believes, while gradually learning why those convictions matter to them personally.

I cannot guarantee that every decision will be right. I cannot remove every disappointment or control every influence.

What I can do is remain available, keep communicating, model the values I want my teenager to develop, seek help when a situation requires it, and continue bringing my child before God.

Proverbs 22:6 offers a familiar reminder:

My prayer is not that my teenager will never struggle. It is that they will learn where to turn when they do.
