Our Thoughts on What the Bible Says About God’s Love
Scripture presents God’s love not as an emotion that wavers with our behavior but as an unchanging attribute of His character. The biblical concept of God’s love goes far deeper than human affection or romantic feelings. It’s “hesed” in Hebrew, which means steadfast, loyal, covenant love that persists regardless of circumstances. This isn’t love that needs to be earned or maintained through good behavior, but love that exists simply because of who God is.
What strikes me most about these verses is how they consistently emphasize the initiative of God’s love. We don’t love first and then receive His love in return. Instead, He loves us while we’re still running from Him, still making mistakes, still doubting His goodness. This love preceded our existence and will outlast our failures. The cross isn’t just proof that God loves us; it’s the extent to which He’ll go to demonstrate that love. When you’re tempted to question whether God truly cares about you, remember that He literally gave everything to prove His love is real.
Say This Prayer
Heavenly Father, some days I struggle to believe that Your love is really meant for me. When I look at my failures, my doubts, and the ways I’ve fallen short, it’s hard to imagine that You could love someone like me unconditionally.
