Yet as believers, we are reminded that we never begin a new week alone.
The God who faithfully carried us through yesterday has already gone before us into today.
The Bible consistently teaches that God is not merely interested in helping us survive each day.
He desires to transform the way we think, work, serve, and trust Him.
When our hearts are anchored in His promises, even ordinary responsibilities become opportunities to glorify Him.

A Devotional Reflection
The beginning of a new week often reveals what we are depending on most. Some people begin Monday relying on careful planning, while others depend on experience, personal ability, or determination. Although these things have value, they cannot provide the strength, wisdom, or peace that only God can give. Scripture repeatedly calls us to begin each day by acknowledging our dependence upon the Lord because every blessing, every opportunity, and every breath ultimately comes from Him.
Isaiah paints a beautiful picture of God’s sustaining power by contrasting human weakness with divine strength. Even the strongest individuals eventually become tired. Physical energy fades, emotional resilience can be exhausted, and mental endurance has its limits. Yet the Lord never grows weary, and He willingly shares His strength with those who place their trust in Him. This does not mean believers will never feel tired or discouraged, but it does mean that our limitations never limit God. When our own resources are depleted, His grace continues to sustain us.
Waiting on the Lord, however, is often misunderstood. It is not passive inactivity or reluctant resignation. It is an active posture of faith that chooses to trust God’s wisdom while continuing to obey His Word. Those who wait upon the Lord continue praying even when answers seem delayed, continue serving even when recognition never comes, and continue believing even when circumstances appear unchanged. Their confidence is rooted not in what they can see but in the character of the God they serve.
This truth naturally shapes the way we approach our daily work. Colossians reminds us that every task can become an expression of worship when it is performed for Christ. The world often separates the sacred from the ordinary, treating church activities as spiritual while viewing everyday work as merely practical. The Bible presents a different perspective. Whether you are managing a business, teaching students, designing products, caring for children, preparing meals, or completing assignments, your work has eternal value when it is done with faithfulness and integrity for the glory of God.
This perspective changes our motivation. Instead of working only for promotions, praise, or financial reward, we work because we serve the Lord Christ. That truth brings both freedom and purpose. We no longer have to measure our worth by the opinions of others because our identity rests securely in Christ. We can pursue excellence without becoming consumed by perfection, knowing that God sees every faithful effort, including those that may go unnoticed by the world.
Moses’ prayer in Psalm 90 adds another important dimension to our understanding of work. He asks God to establish the work of His people’s hands, recognizing that lasting significance comes from God’s blessing rather than human achievement alone. History is filled with impressive accomplishments that quickly faded, but anything built according to God’s will carries eternal value. This should encourage us to seek His direction before making important decisions, to invite Him into our daily responsibilities, and to remember that success is ultimately defined by faithfulness rather than popularity or recognition.
Of course, beginning a new week also brings its share of worries. We may feel anxious about deadlines, finances, relationships, health concerns, or decisions that still need to be made. Left unchecked, anxiety has a way of consuming our thoughts and stealing our peace. The apostle Paul offers a better response. Rather than allowing worry to dominate our minds, he urges believers to bring every concern before God through prayer, petition, and thanksgiving.
Notice that Paul includes thanksgiving alongside our requests. Gratitude reminds us of God’s past faithfulness while we pray about present needs. When we remember how God has provided, guided, forgiven, and sustained us before, our confidence grows that He will remain faithful today. This does not guarantee that every situation will unfold exactly as we hope, but it assures us that God’s presence will never leave us and that His peace will guard our hearts regardless of the outcome.
As this Monday begins, consider the privilege of starting your week with God rather than simply rushing into your responsibilities. Before checking your schedule, pause to seek His wisdom. Before facing your challenges, remember His promises. Before relying on your own strength, receive His. The greatest preparation for the week ahead is not a perfectly organized calendar but a heart that is surrendered to the Lord.
When we begin each day in God’s presence, we gradually discover that our perspective changes. Challenges become opportunities to trust Him more deeply. Responsibilities become occasions to serve Him faithfully. Even unexpected interruptions can become reminders that His plans are higher than ours. The Lord is not only concerned with what you will accomplish this week. He is also shaping your character, strengthening your faith, and teaching you to walk more closely with Him through every moment.

- Commit your work, studies, or responsibilities to God and ask Him to establish the work of your hands.
