Strength feels impossible when life keeps knocking you down. You’re exhausted from fighting battles that never seem to end. The weight of responsibility, grief, disappointment, or spiritual warfare has left you depleted.
You’re running on fumes, and people keep telling you to “stay strong” as if willpower alone could sustain you through what you’re facing.
Corrie ten Boom, a Christian author who survived Nazi concentration camps (during World War II) and lost her entire family, wrote, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.”
She understood that staying strong isn’t about having enough personal resilience. It’s about tapping into a strength that comes from outside yourself, a strength made perfect in weakness.
The biblical concept of strength is radically different from the world’s version. Culture celebrates self-sufficiency, independence, and never showing weakness.
But Scripture says that when you’re weak, then you’re strong because God’s power shows up most clearly when you have nothing left. These verses reveal where to find supernatural strength when your own runs out.

Our Thoughts On What the Bible Says About Staying Strong
Staying strong isn’t about mustering enough willpower or pretending you’re fine when you’re falling apart. It’s about recognizing that God is your strength, your refuge, and your fortress when you have nothing left.
The promise isn’t that you’ll always feel strong. It’s when you’re weak, God’s power shows up most clearly because there’s no question it’s Him, not you.
Scripture repeatedly emphasizes that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. The keyword is “hope.” You stay strong by anchoring yourself in God’s promises, having confidence in His character and His faithfulness rather than your circumstances.
When everything around you is crumbling, God remains your solid foundation. When you’re depleted, He becomes your portion. When you’re afraid, He’s your stronghold.
The joy of the Lord is your strength. Not happiness dependent on circumstances, but deep joy rooted in knowing that God is with you, that He’s working all things for good, and that this battle isn’t yours but His. When you stay connected to Him, you access the strength you could never generate on your own.
Say This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I’m exhausted and depleted. I have nothing left in my own strength, and I need You to be my refuge and stronghold. I confess that I’ve been trying to stay strong in my own power, and it’s not working.
Strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being. Renew my strength like the eagles. Help me to run and not grow weary, to walk and not be faint. Be my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer when I feel like I’m drowning.
When I’m weak, remind me that Your power is made perfect in my weakness. Help me to hope in You rather than my circumstances. Let the joy of the Lord be my strength when everything around me suggests I should give up.
Arm me with Your strength and keep my way secure. Help me to be strong and courageous, not because I feel brave but because You’re with me wherever I go.
In Jesus’ powerful Name, Amen.
