Our Thoughts On What the Bible Says About Single Christians
Singleness in Scripture is never presented as a consolation prize or a problem needing fixing. Paul actually calls it a gift in 1 Corinthians 7, pointing out that unmarried people have unique freedom to serve God with undivided devotion. That doesn’t minimize the loneliness or the longing for companionship, but it does reframe singleness as a valid, purposeful season rather than a waiting room.
What’s important to understand is that your completeness doesn’t come from another person. It comes from Christ. Marriage doesn’t complete you. It reveals what was already there and requires you to die to yourself in new ways. If you’re waiting for marriage to make you whole, you’ll be disappointed.
The consistent pattern in Scripture is that God’s timing is perfect even when it feels painfully slow. Abraham and Sarah waited decades. Joseph waited years in prison. David waited to become king. The waiting wasn’t wasted. It was preparation.
Your singleness right now isn’t a mistake, a punishment, or evidence that something’s wrong with you. It’s a season with unique opportunities to serve, grow, and seek God without the divided attention that marriage requires. Whether this season lasts one more year or the rest of your life, God hasn’t forgotten you, and your life has purpose beyond your relationship status.
