Your marriage is hanging by a thread. The trust is shattered, the intimacy is gone, and you’re just surviving in the same house with someone who feels like a stranger. Maybe infidelity happened, leading to broken trust. Maybe years of neglect created a canyon you don’t know how to cross. Maybe the fighting has become so constant that silence feels like the only way to keep the peace. You’re exhausted, hurt, and wondering if restoration is even possible.
The world tells you to cut your losses and move on. Even well-meaning Christians might suggest that some marriages are beyond repair. But God specializes in resurrection. He brings life to dead things, hope to hopeless situations, and restoration where everyone else sees only wreckage. Marriage restoration isn’t easy or quick, and it requires both people to be willing. But with God, what seems impossible becomes possible.
These verses reveal what Scripture says about marriage restoration, God’s heart for healing broken marriages, and the hope available to couples willing to fight for what God has joined together. Your marriage isn’t over until God says it’s over.

Our Thoughts On What the Bible Says About Marriage Restoration
God can restore any marriage if both people are willing to do the hard work. Notice that qualifier: both people. You can’t restore a marriage alone. You can pray, you can change yourself, you can do everything right, but if your spouse isn’t willing to engage, restoration won’t happen. That doesn’t mean giving up immediately, but it does mean recognizing that you can’t force someone to participate in healing.
Marriage restoration requires radical honesty, deep forgiveness, and genuine repentance from both sides. It means acknowledging what went wrong, taking responsibility for your part, and being willing to rebuild trust slowly. It’s not about sweeping things under the rug or pretending everything is fine. It’s about addressing the root issues, getting help if needed, and fighting for what God has joined together.
The promise is that God can repay the years the locusts have eaten. He specializes in bringing dead things back to life. But restoration takes time, patience, and both people choosing love even when they don’t feel it. God’s power can do the impossible, but both spouses have to be willing vessels for that work.
Say This Prayer
Heavenly Father, my marriage feels broken beyond repair, but I know that what’s impossible with man is possible with You. I bring this shattered relationship to You and ask for Your healing, Your restoration, and Your miracle.
Show me where I’ve contributed to the breakdown. Give me the humility to own my part, the courage to seek forgiveness, and the grace to extend forgiveness. Soften my heart toward my spouse and help me to see them the way You see them.
If my spouse is willing, give us both the strength to do the hard work of restoration. Help us to communicate honestly, forgive deeply, and rebuild trust slowly. Bring wise counsel into our lives and give us supernatural love for each other when our feelings have died.
I trust that You hate divorce and that You’re fighting for this marriage even when we’re not. Work in both of our hearts. Restore what’s been broken, heal what’s been wounded, and make our marriage stronger than it was before.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
