Waiting for God’s promises to come true tests faith like nothing else. He promised provision, but your bank account is empty. He promised healing, but the symptoms persist. He promised a future and a hope, but you’re still stuck in the same situation years later. The delay feels endless, and doubt creeps in: Did you hear God wrong? Did you disqualify yourself somehow? Do His promises actually come true, or are they just beautiful words that don’t translate to real life?
But Scripture is filled with promises that came true after agonizing delays. Abraham waited 25 years for Isaac. Joseph endured 13 years between dream and fulfillment. Moses spent 40 years in preparation. Hannah wept year after year before Samuel was born. Yet every promise God made eventually came to pass. Not one word failed. The delays weren’t denials; they were preparation for promises that would come exactly when God intended, not when His people preferred.
These verses reveal that God’s promises are absolutely certain, that He cannot lie, and that delays don’t mean He’s forgotten. His word never returns void, His purposes always succeed, and what He has spoken will come to pass regardless of how long you have to wait.

Our Thoughts On What the Bible Says About God’s Promises Coming True
God’s promises always come true, but rarely on our preferred timeline. Abraham had the promise of a son but waited 25 years. That quarter-century must have felt like God forgot, like the promise died. Yet at the appointed time, exactly when God intended, Isaac was born. The delay wasn’t God being slow; it was God’s perfect timing that Abraham couldn’t see from his limited perspective. What looks like a delay from earth is precision timing from heaven.
The certainty of God’s promises is rooted in His character. It’s impossible for God to lie. He’s not human that He should change His mind. What He has spoken, He will bring to pass. Not one word of all His good promises has ever failed. That track record matters when you’re waiting for your specific promise to materialize. The same God who kept every promise to Israel, who fulfilled every prophecy about Jesus, who never once failed to do what He said, is the God who made promises to you.
Faith and patience are both required to inherit promises. Abraham received what was promised after waiting patiently. Impatience often causes people to abandon promises right before a breakthrough. The promise has an appointed time, and though it lingers, it will certainly come. Your job isn’t to figure out how or when; it’s to keep believing that He who promised is faithful. Hold unswervingly to hope because the One who made the promise cannot lie and will not fail.
Say This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I’m struggling to keep believing Your promises. The wait has been so long, and I can’t see any evidence that what You promised is coming. Doubt whispers that I heard You wrong, that I disqualified myself, or that Your promises don’t actually come true in real life. I desperately need faith to keep believing.
Remind me that not one of Your good promises has ever failed. Help me to trust that You’re not slow in keeping Your promises, but working on a timeline I can’t see. Strengthen my confidence that You cannot lie, that Your word never returns void, and that what You’ve spoken will absolutely come to pass.
Give me the faith and patience to inherit what You’ve promised. Keep me from abandoning hope right before the breakthrough. Help me to be fully persuaded that You have the power to do what You’ve promised, even when circumstances scream the opposite.
Let me imitate those who, through faith and patience, have inherited promises. Remind me of Abraham, Sarah, Joseph, Hannah, and countless others who waited years but eventually saw every promise fulfilled. Be watching over Your word to fulfill it in my life at the appointed time.
In Jesus’ faithful Name, Amen.
