Your dreams might be from God, or they might just be your ambition wearing a spiritual costume.
The difference matters enormously because one leads to fulfillment and the other leads to exhausting yourself chasing things God never asked you to do.
Not every desire you have is God’s calling for your life.
Joseph had dreams from God that came with 13 years of slavery and prison before fulfillment.
His brothers had dreams too, ambitious ones about being more important than Joseph. Their dreams were just jealousy and ego.
Purpose in the Bible isn’t about discovering your passion and monetizing it. It’s about faithfully doing what’s in front of you while trusting God to unfold what He’s planned.

That wasn’t wasted time. It was preparation.
The prosperity gospel sells you the lie that God’s purpose for you is comfort, success, and having your dreams come true quickly.
Scripture shows purpose often includes suffering, delay, and paths you never would have chosen.
Dreams From God Come With Process, Not Just Promise
Modern culture tells you to follow your dreams as if desire alone validates direction.
The Bible shows God-given dreams coming with preparation seasons that feel nothing like the dream itself.
David was anointed king as a teenager. He spent the next decade running from Saul, living in caves, and leading a ragtag group of misfits.
The dream was kingship. The preparation involved surviving assassination attempts.
Joseph’s dreams showed him ruling. His preparation included being sold into slavery for twenty shekels of silver, falsely accused of rape, and forgotten in prison.
The gap between dream and fulfillment tested whether he’d maintain character when the dream looked completely dead.
This destroys the instant-gratification approach to dreams and purpose.
You want the dream without the process. God uses the process to prepare you for the dream so it doesn’t destroy you when it arrives.
Most people quit during the preparation season because it doesn’t match what they envisioned.
They interpret delay as denial when it’s actually development. The dream needs you to grow into someone who can handle it.
Your current situation might be preparing you for something you can’t see yet.
Faithfulness with what you have now qualifies you for what God has planned later. Skipping the process guarantees you’re unprepared for the dream.
Purpose unfolds through obedience to current assignments, not obsessive planning for future possibilities.
Do what’s in front of you excellently.
Trust God to open doors when you’re ready, not when you demand them.

Social media sells you the fantasy that purpose should feel exciting every day, and dreams should manifest quickly if they’re from God.
Real biblical examples demolish this completely.
Joseph waited 13 years between dream and fulfillment, spending most of that time enslaved and imprisoned.
Moses shepherded sheep for 40 years before leading Israel. David was anointed king as a teenager but didn’t rule for over a decade.
None of them knew the timeline. All had to trust during excruciating delays.
Your generation wants purpose without process and dreams without the preparation seasons that feel nothing like the promise.
You interpret delay as God saying no when He’s actually developing you, so the dream doesn’t destroy you when it arrives.
Stop romanticizing purpose.
It often includes suffering, waiting, and faithfully doing things you never wanted to do but needed to become who God called you to be.
Dreams from God come with process, not just promise.
The people who fulfill their purpose aren’t the ones with the biggest dreams. They’re the ones who remain faithful during preparation seasons that most people inevitably quit.
Say This Prayer
Father, I bring You my dreams and ask You to show me which ones are from You and which ones are just my ambition dressed in spiritual language.
I want Your purpose, not just my preferences, with Your blessing attached.
Give me patience for the process between promise and fulfillment. Help me stay faithful during preparation seasons that don’t look anything like the dream.
Don’t let me quit when delay makes me think You’ve denied what You actually promised.
