Instead, it acknowledges the reality of suffering while pointing to a God who specializes in comforting the afflicted. The title “God of all comfort” isn’t just a nice metaphor; it’s a description of His character and His active presence in our darkest moments.
What’s remarkable is how Scripture connects receiving comfort with offering it to others. Our own experiences of consolation become the very thing that equips us to comfort others in their trials. This transforms suffering from something merely to endure into something redemptive that can bring healing to others. The comfort isn’t wasted; it becomes a gift we can pass along.
The Bible also acknowledges that not all comfort is genuine. Job’s friends are called “miserable comforters” because their attempts to explain his suffering only added to his pain. Say This Prayer
