Churches that constantly complain about financial shortfalls while providing zero transparency about where money actually goes create cynical congregations who stop giving because they don’t trust leadership.
You can’t guilt people into sustained generosity. Manipulation produces one-time gifts followed by resentment and disengagement.

Paul didn’t shame churches into giving.

Modern church fundraising often violates all those principles.
It’s vague about how money will be used, implies people who don’t give sacrificially aren’t spiritual enough, creates pressure through countdown clocks and matching challenges, and celebrates big givers by name while ignoring modest gifts.
That’s manipulation, not biblical stewardship. It produces resentful givers and cynical congregations who stop trusting leadership with finances.
