Our Thoughts On What the Bible Says About Entrepreneurs and Business
Proverbs reads like an ancient business manual because wisdom about money, work, and commerce is deeply practical. The Bible celebrates entrepreneurial spirit while warning against the character failures that often accompany success. It commends the diligent worker, the skilled craftsman, the wise investor who diversifies risk. Joseph’s administrative genius saved nations. Lydia ran a successful textile business. The Proverbs 31 woman operated multiple revenue streams.
But Scripture refuses to separate business success from spiritual health or personal integrity. You can’t worship God on Sunday and worship profit margins Monday through Friday. The same character that makes you trustworthy in small financial matters will be tested when the stakes get higher. Shortcuts that compromise integrity might work short-term, but Proverbs is clear: dishonest scales are an abomination, and wealth gained hastily will dwindle.
The Bible also addresses what happens after you achieve financial success. The danger isn’t money itself but the love of it, the way it promises security that only God can provide. Entrepreneurs face a unique temptation to find identity in what they build rather than in who they are in Christ. Your business may fail, but your value doesn’t fluctuate with your revenue.
